Working with me
One senior consultant, directly accountable.
This work is for organisations facing a platform, estate or decision that is harder than it should be: complex, partly undocumented and carrying real risk. You deal with one senior person throughout. The person who scopes the work performs it, the reasoning is shown, and the evidence is yours to keep.
This page answers the practical questions that sit behind hiring an independent consultant: how work starts, how it stays controlled, how information is handled and what happens around the edges.
How work starts
- 01
Initial conversation
A no-obligation discussion about the environment, the decision in front of you and the risk already in play.
- 02
Define the problem
Agree what actually has to be decided or delivered, and what evidence would settle it.
- 03
Evidence, read-only
Where appropriate, discovery starts read-only: understanding the environment before anything changes.
- 04
Scope in writing
Scope, assumptions and exclusions written down, so everyone can see the edges of the work.
- 05
First deliverable agreed
Where evidence is needed before scope can settle, the next step is a defined paid discovery engagement with written outputs.
The first output
The first valuable output is normally an evidence-backed view of the environment, not a change programme. Depending on the engagement it looks like:
- 01Discovery summary
- 02Dependency map
- 03Risk and decision register
- 04Evidence pack
- 05Agreed next actions
Scope and change control
Work stays controlled the same way it starts: in writing.
- Written scope with explicit exclusions.
- Assumptions recorded, not remembered.
- Named owners for every decision.
- Agreed sign-off points before anything changes.
- No silent expansion of scope: changes are agreed and recorded.
Working with your teams
Most engagements land inside an existing operation: internal engineers and architects, security teams, a service desk, an MSP, incumbent suppliers and vendors. The work is designed to strengthen that operation, not route around it. The value is senior judgement, evidence and delivery support where the environment is difficult.
Work is documented as it progresses. You retain the agreed evidence, decisions, plans and handover material, reducing reliance on one individual. Planned absence is agreed in advance, and operational continuity remains with your internal team, MSP or incumbent supplier.
Direct senior accountability
The person who scopes the work performs or leads it. There is no hand-off to a delivery team you have not met, and decisions and evidence stay attributable to a named person.
The limits of a one-person consultancy are stated rather than hidden: capacity is finite and availability is planned. That is exactly why the documentation and handover are designed so nothing important lives only in one head.
Public liability insurance is held, with details available on request. NDAs can be signed where required.
Independence
Recommendations are based on the environment, the evidence and the risk. Any commercial interest is declared, and vendor relationships do not decide the answer.
Data, confidentiality and access
The discipline the writing on this site describes applies to the engagement itself:
- Least privilege, with client-approved access only.
- Read-only first where practical: understanding before change.
- No production change without agreed authority.
- Passwords, credentials, tokens and other secrets are excluded from AI workflows.
- AI-assisted analysis is agreed with you before it is used, and a no-AI route is available.
- Findings are validated by a person, and accountability stays with a named individual.
How AI-assisted analysis handles information is covered on the AI-assisted delivery service page and in the data gate section of the AI article. How this site handles your own information is on the privacy and business information page.
Works best when
- The environment is poorly understood and decisions are waiting on it.
- The risk is real but the route forward is unclear.
- Several platforms or teams are involved and nobody owns the whole picture.
- A migration or decommissioning decision needs evidence behind it.
- An internal team needs senior, hands-on support rather than a report.
